Maintenance Washing, Stripping & Sealing
PT Pine, Cedar, Redwood, Ipe, Teak

weathered woodRain, morning dew, and even melting snow are quickly absorbed by unprotected wood, causing it to swell and soften. The sun's heat causes drying, this makes the wood shrink. These cycles of wet and dry, swelling and shrinking, cause wood to warp, split, crack, and check. Living in New York also means your wood surfaces are subjected to a numerous freeze and thaw cycles each year. This causes wood to have a shorter life span, needing expensive repairs, or replacement. This is why we recommend sealing your deck with a tinted sealer or stain once it has been washed.

Whether you have a deck, fence, gazebo or cedar home the effects of weather are relentless. Cleaning and sealing exterior wood surfaces helps to prevent rot and decay, as well as UV damage. What many homeowners are not aware of is that there are correct and incorrect methods of caring for wood decks and cedar homes. Clean County Powerwashing is certified in Wood Restoration and Preservation by the PWNA. As a homeowner, you can be assured that we’re using safest, most effective and gentle methods of cleaning in order to help protect your wood from unnecessary abuse and high pressure by untrained and uncertified contractors. Cedar is a soft wood and can easily be damaged due to the use of improper methods. Cedar homes require a specific cleaning and sealing maintenance regimine to keep them looking good and well protected year after year. We use a two step cleaning process in order to return the wood to its natural pH prior to sealing the wood. This also helps to ensure that the finish we apply will have the best possible result on your wood.

VOC Laws - Changes Affect Sealers, Stains & Paints

On January 1st of 2005, significant VOC restriction standards were enacted in New York. These standards have been taken primarily from the California Air Resource Board which has led the way in VOC restriction measures. VOC's are carbon containing chemical compounds that readily evaporate into the atmosphere, damaging the ozone layer. Common examples of products which emit VOC's include gasoline, mineral spirits, alcohol, nail polish, and paint. VOC's are released from many sources, including large and small process industries. These sources are responsible for the majority of VOC emissions. As these major sources become subject to more stringent regulation, lawmakers seek to regulate smaller sources including sealer and paint manufacturers. Clean County Powerwashing uses only sealers and stains that are compliant with the latest VOC regulations.
